A t three performances of Matilda on May 12, 13 & 14, excited audience members filled every seat in the Smith Family Theater in the Matthews Center for Performing Arts. The PBDA community has come to expect professional quality productions, and the cast and crew of Roald Dahl's Matilda did not disappoint. As always, once the show was underway, the audience members had to remind themselves that the performers and stage crew were all between the ages of twelve and fifteen. Under the direction of Jan Cook, and musical director Annette Johnson, the 7th - 9th Graders, who, when they are not in rehearsal, are also preparing for exams, speeches, TED Talks and athletic competitions, delivered one delightful moment after another all evening. The experience was made even more unforgettable for all those in the audience who have watched these young men and women grow up in our school family. At the end of the opening night performance, Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Johnson announced the recipient of the White Jacket, which is an honor given to a cast member who has shown talent, dedication and positive support to all involved in the show. Grace Watts humbly received the honor for Matilda.

These educators, many of them school directors or owners, were interested in learning more about how to build a “culture a thinking” in their schools. During their three-hour visit, they visited classrooms and interacted with teachers and students. The visit ended with a Question & Answer session with teacher representatives from various grade levels and Donna Tobey. Before leaving, they presented PBDA with a book about Barcelona for the school library.
