The Palm Beach Day Academy Pet Show began in 1970 and had its last hurrah in 1997. It was originally run by the Student Council along with help from parents. This year, the Alumni Committee decided to bring it back. Pet owners and their four legged friends gathered on the East Field on Saturday, February 22nd to compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons in eleven categories. Alumni Judges reviewed the pets as they paraded with their owners before making their final decisions which included awarding the Best in Show Cup to Chili Pepper Conde whose family will enjoy the cup for a year, before presenting it to the 2015 Pet Show Best in Show Winner, next year. A plaque will be engraved with the winner’s name and be on display in PBDA’s trophy case.

International Day
pic1 On Thursday, February 13, the Lower School community came together for its 19th International Day performance. This performance allows students to share their understanding of other cultures through the performing arts of music, dance, and drama. The show opened with a Chorus presentation "I See a Star" to welcome everyone. This was followed by the Pre-Primary classes, representing the United States, with a heart-warming rendition of “I've Been Working on the Railroad.” The show continued with performances from all Lower School classes representing Canada, Nicaragua, Bahamas, Iceland, Ireland, Armenia, Thailand, Morocco, and Zambia. The finale featured all students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 singing “Together, We Can Change the World,” with the accompaniment of Teddy O., and teacher Buckley Griffis on drums and teacher George Yeager on guitar.

FeatherBallPre14 Evening With the Arts
PBDA's Evening With the Arts showcased the visual and performing arts talents of the 4th through 9th Graders last Tuesday evening, February 18. Parents and students enjoyed viewing the artwork displayed on the walls of the Upper Campus hallways before entering the Smith Family Theater for a variety show that included performances by Mrs. Johnson's Middle School and Bulldog Chorus, the Fourth Grade recorder players and singers, the Fifth Grade music class singers and dancers, the Sixth Grade music class Percussion Ensemble, and Mr. Griffis' Steel Drum Band & Samba Band. Monologues, presented by 7th - 9th Grade Play Writing students, rounded out the night. The artwork displayed included something from every student who has been in the drawing, painting, ceramics, color theory, art appreciation, and computer design and graphics classes since September. Art Department Chair, Scott Thompson, and art teachers Sue Chris, Jan Cook, Claudie Finney, Buckley Griffis, Annette Johnson, and Tracy Kramm were proud to display the results of the students work from the first half of the year.

pic1 5th Grade Presidents' Assembly
All forty-three United States Presidents made their annual appearance at PBDA in honor of Presidents' Day in February. This year, because the 5th Graders out-number the presidents, a few other historically significant characters joined them on stage in the Smith Family Theater for a brief re-cap of the last 225 years of presidential history.
